February 14, 2016     .     10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Fairview Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate Langston University Day and Scholarship Sunday on February 14, 2016.   A part of Black History Month at the church, Fairview uses this special occasion to recognize Langston University, the only historically black university (HBCU) in the state of Oklahoma, and to raise funds for the John A. and Patricia Reed Scholarship Fund, a fund that assists students that are enrolled in a recognized school of higher education, post high school.

Langston’s President, Dr. Kent J. Smith, Jr., the University choir, and the entire Langston community will join Fairview on this day.  Dr. Smith will deliver greetings and the choir will sing during the 10 a.m. worship period.     The speaker for morning worship is Attorney Erick W. Harris.  Erick is a member of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church where he serves as a Deacon, a Trustee and as Director of the church’s Black History Ministry.

Mr. Harris is an Assistant Attorney General for the Oklahoma Attorney General's Office.  He works in the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, prosecuting criminal fraud by Medicaid providers and abuse or neglect of residents in healthcare facilities. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at the University of Central Oklahoma.  Erick is licensed to practice law in all state courts in Oklahoma and is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association.

Erick received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Tuskegee University where he served as Student Body President.  He received a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Oklahoma.  He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Law and served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Oklahoma Journal of Law and Technology.

Each year, Fairview uses this special occasion to raise funds for its scholarship program to support local college students.  The congregation will be given the opportunity to donate to the John A. and Patricia Reed Scholarship Fund.  Donations can also be made electronically on an ongoing basis through the church website's Online Giving link.
