110th Church Anniversary & Homecoming; Red Church Reunion Scheduled

By M. Patterson, Director; FBC Communications Ministry |  November 14, 2019

The year 2019 marks Fairview Missionary Baptist Church’s 110th Church Anniversary and Homecoming Celebration. The theme for the occasion is “Maintaining the Unity of the Spirit,” Ephesians 4:1-6.

This year’s observance will include a Red Church Reunion on Saturday, November 30, and the Homecoming Worship Service on Sunday, November 1.

Saturday’s event, The Red Church Reunion, is predicated on the need to bring together those persons that were members of Fairview during the period of 1973 – 1990, and afford time to renew, reminisce and reflect on the times, people and experiences that contributed to the memories and many life-changing events of the period now referenced as “ when we were in The Red Church.”  The day’s agenda will focus on The Era, The People, The Experience, and The Legacy.

Several activities are planned for the day, including a tailgate party, sharing periods, Red Church videos and memorabilia displays, and a group chat with the Pastor and the Sons of Fairview and others.  The day will close with a “We Remember” Program, with special guests, acknowledgements and recognitions.  Registration, although not required, is requested to assist in planning.  You may register online at www.fairviewokc.com.   More details on the Reunion are available on the church website.

The 110th Celebration will climax on Sunday, December 1, with the traditional Church Anniversary and Homecoming Agenda.  The day will begin with Sunday School at 8:30 a.m.  At 10:00 a.m., the Fairview family and the Tabitha Baptist Church family will come together for joint worship.  Tabitha Pastor Jeff L. Mitchell, a Son of Fairview, will bring the message and Tabitha's choir will sing.

Fairview members that are 85 years of age and older, those that have been members for 50 years or more, as well as those that were members of Fairview during The Red Church Era will be recognized during the service.

The weekend’s celebration will culminate with a Homecoming fellowship dinner immediately following morning worship.  All members and guests are encouraged to share in the dinner.

Fairview Pastor John A. Reed, Jr., the Homecoming Committee and the Red Church Reunion Committee are urging all members, active and inactive, former members and the community to be a part of this year’s celebration.   Brother Clearon Coffey is Homecoming Chair, with Sister Jo Reed serving as his assistant, and Sister Maeleatha Patterson is Chair of the Red Church Reunion.

Fairview is located at 1700 N. E. 7th Street in Oklahoma City.  For more information, call the church at 405-232-1621, email fairviewokc@aol.com, or visit the church website at www.fairviewokc.com.  Those needing transportation should call 405-471-9494.
