By M. Patterson, Fairview Baptist Church Communications |  March 10, 2020

The East Zion Consolidated District Association (EZCDA) is moving forward with its commemorative celebration, in recognition of 100 years of mission, service and ministry.  The second night of the Centennial Memorial and Living Legends Revival will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at the St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 5700 N. Kelley Avenue (OKC).  Dr. Major L. Jemison is Host Pastor.  Worship begins at 7:00 p.m.

The five-night Revival is held one Wednesday night per month, beginning in February and ending in June, and is a time set aside to recognize and salute the Moderators that led the District over the past 100 years.  This Wednesday evening’s agenda includes music by the EZCDA Mass Choir, comprised of members of EZCDA churches, music by other choirs as requested, the special recognition and acknowledgement period, a lecture by Rev. Timothy Neal, of New Union Baptist Church, and the Gospel message by Pastor Jemison.   Rev. Neal is a grandson of Dr. E. R. Neal and Dr. Jemison served as Assistant Pastor to Dr. W. K. Jackson.

The Moderators to be recognized in March, posthumously, their term in office and the church where they served as Pastor during their tenure are:  Dr. W. K. Jackson (1962-1966, St. John Missionary Baptist Church); Rev. M. A. Curry (1966-1970, Faith Memorial Baptist Church); Rev. E. R. Neal (1970-1974, Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church); and Rev. E. A. Ward (1974-1978, Macedonia Baptist Church, Guthrie).   Family members, as well as churches where the Moderators served, will be special guests and will be acknowledged during the service.

The full schedule for the Revival, with each night’s honorees, lecturers and preachers, is available on the District website, www.eastziondistrict.org

Other Centennial activities include a Commemorative Souvenir Journal, a Celebration Picnic, the Centennial Concert, and the Annual District Banquet, which will end the observance and be held at the close of the District’s Annual Session in August.  Detailed information on all Centennial events, including dates and ticket information, will be posted on the District website as details are finalized.
Submissions are now being accepted for inclusion in the Souvenir Journal.  Information and forms are available on the website.   The EZCDA Mass Choir has ongoing rehearsals on the first Saturday of each month at 2:00 p.m. at New Union Baptist Church.  The choir is open to church members of the District and sing for worship services as directed.

All churches in the EZCDA, as well as the community, are encouraged to be a part of these historical centennial events.

Dr. Kelly Booker, Pastor of New Union Baptist Church, is current EZCDA Moderator.  Dr. John A. Reed, Jr., Pastor of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church and former District Moderator, is Honorary Chairman for the Centennial Planning Committee.
