Fairview Celebrate Family in September

By M. Patterson |  August 25, 2014

Sunday, September 7, will be the kickoff for Fairview Baptist Church’s “Focus on the Family” Month.  All Bible Study and Sunday worship periods will be centered on the family.  A number of activities are scheduled for the month, each focused on the theme, “The Recovery of Family Life,” Hosea 3:1.

Dr. J. A. Reed, Jr., Senior Pastor at Fairview, will jump-start the month on the first Sunday by challenging worshippers with his message entitled, “What is the Foundation of Your Home?” from Matthew 7:24-25.  Grandparents will also be honored on that day, in recognition of National Grandparent Day.

Rev. Derrick Walter, Sr., Assistant Pastor, will be the preacher for Sunday, September 14, as the church observes Senior Saints Day.  Special regard will be given to members aged 60 and over.

The Family Enrichment Ministry will sponsor a Family Life Retreat (married couples and single adults) September 19 – 21 at Fin and Feather Family Resort in Gore, Oklahoma.  Special sessions are planned with group leaders to aid couples in affirming, celebrating, validating and recreating their marriages and to provide singles with resources to live wholesome lives as single adults and reaffirm their singleness in Christ.  The group will return to Fairview on Sunday morning to worship together with the church family.  Conference registration is $230 for married couples and $130 for singles ($100 for seniors, 65 years of age and over).  Registration cost includes two nights’ lodging, a cookout and banquet on Saturday, conference materials and a T-Shirt.   All payments are due by September 1.  Registration and payment can be completed online through the church website at www.fairviewokc.com

Sunday, September 28, is Annual Family Day at Fairview.  The day will begin with Sunday School at 8:30 a.m. and continue with morning worship at 10:00 a.m.  The Family Day message will be by Rev. Manuel Scott, Jr. of Los Angeles, California.  Rev. Scott is the first seminary trained, full-time evangelist on a national scale coming out of the Black Baptist church.  Evangelist Scott has conducted well over 1000 revivals and crusades (averaging 48 revivals a year) wherein some 20,000 persons have come to the Lord.  He is the author of the book, The Quotable Manuel Scott Sr: Words From A Gospel Genius, and has written well over 75 printed contemporary lectures, including: "I'm Too Blessed To Be Stressed," "What A Difference A Daddy Makes," "Sister, Jesus Has Your Back," "How To Inspire And Organize Youth In The Urban Church," "Sister, Does Your Man Pass The Test?" to name a few.  He has conducted many workshops and seminars on the family, marriage and living single.

“The Lord Himself has given the direction for the family in His Word,” stated Senior Pastor Reed.  He further declared that “Through the church, the Word is preached and taught that families may become stronger and able to make their rightful contribution to society.  If the family is to be saved, the church must lead the way.”

Pastor Reed, Bro. Larry Epps, Director of Fairview’s Family Enrichment Ministry, and the church family invite the community to share in all “Focus on the Family” activities.  For additional information, visit the church website at www.fairviewokc.com  or call the church at 405-232-1621.  The church is located at 1700 N.
