Fairview Schedules Christian Leadership School (CLS)

Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1700 N. E. 7th Street in Oklahoma City, will hold its Spring Session Christian Leadership School (CLS) May 12 and 13, 2017.  The CLS has been approved and certified by the Sunday School Publishing Board (SSPB) of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. (NBC, USA, Inc.).  

The school will be in session Friday night from 6:00pm-9:00p.m. and Saturday from 8:30a.m.-12:30p.m.   Enrollment is open to anyone interested in furthering their Christian Education or earning course credit toward certification through the SSPB.

Courses offered and instructors are, respectively: “Introduction to the Old Testament,” Rev. Al Walter; “Baptist Doctrine,” Rev. Kenneth Sherrill; “Spiritual Formation,” Sis. Johnneese Walter; “Synoptic Gospels,” Rev. Lee Benson; “Theology & History of Christianity,” Bro. Bob Simmons; “Survey of John,” Rev. A. R. Crawford; “Christian Evangelism,” Rev. Cleo McGlory; “Survey of Revelation,” Rev. Allen Threatt; “Christianity and Contemporary Issues,” Sis. Marcy Turner; “Public Speaking,” Sis. Debra Davis; “Young Adult’s Work in the Church,” Rev. Rodney Payne; Ministering to the Bereaved,” Rev. L. Mike Woodberry; and “Children Teaching Methods & Learning Styles for Infants to 5th Grade,” Sis. Jewell Jackson.  The church nursery will be open during the school.

Registration is now open and can be completed online with the option to pay online through the church website at www.fairviewokc.com.  Mail-in forms can be downloaded through the website.  Onsite registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday evening, May 12.  Donation is $15.00 per course.  Pre-registration is encouraged to ensure admission in the desired course.  Classes will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.  Additional information, i.e., course descriptions, school schedule, etc., is available on the church’s website.

The aim of the SSPB CLS Program is to provide structured training and development activities that will take place at all levels of the Baptist denomination.  Its goal is to better prepare individuals to become witnesses in accordance with Acts 1:8. The leadership of Fairview, as well as the staff for the CLS, endeavors to do its best in providing learning opportunities to help individuals grow spiritually and in their work and witness in the world for Christ.

Lavinnie L. Moore, East Zion Consolidated District Association Congress of Christian Education Dean, is Fairview’s Christian Education Director and will serve as Dean for the CLS.  Dr. John A. Reed. Jr., NBC, USA, Inc. - Western Region Vice President is Senior Pastor at Fairview.
