Fairview to Celebrate Langston University / Scholarship Day

By M. Patterson, Director; FBC Communications & PR |  January 30, 2018

Fairview Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate Langston University Day and Scholarship Sunday on February 11, 2018.   A part of Black History Month at the church, Fairview uses this special occasion to recognize Langston University, the only historically black university (HBCU) in the state of Oklahoma, and to raise funds for the John A. and Patricia Reed Scholarship Fund, a fund that assists students that are enrolled in a recognized school of higher education, post high school.

Langston’s President, Dr. Kent J. Smith, Jr., the University choir, and the entire Langston community will join Fairview on this day.  Dr. Smith will deliver greetings during the 10 a.m. worship period.  The preacher for morning worship will be Rev. Derrick E. Walter, Sr., Assistant Pastor at Fairview.

At 6 p.m. on that day, Rev. Jamaal Dyer, Associate Minister at Metropolitan Baptist Church, Tulsa, will be preaching for View Sundays, a contemporary worship service sponsored by the Children, Youth and Young Adults of Fairview.  Rev. Dyer, an alumnus of Langston University, is very active in the Tulsa Community, serving as project manager with 1921 Tulsa Race Riot Centennial Commission and as a counselor with Family and Youth Intervention Services, working with young black males.  Joyful Praise Outreach Dance Team will also be on the evening program.

Senior Pastor John A. Reed, Jr. and the Fairview Church Family extend a special invitation to all Langston alumni and friends of Langston to worship at Fairview on that day.  Donations to the John A. and Patricia Reed Scholarship fund can be made during Sunday’s offertory period or can be made online through the church website, www.fairviewokc.com, Online Giving link.
