National Baptist Conference to Meet at Fairview May 1 & 2

The Sunday School Publishing Board (SSPB) of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. (NBCUSA), will hold its Western Region 1 and 2 Conference in Oklahoma City, May 1-2, 2017.  The two Regions are comprised of 13 states, and includes Oklahoma.  The Conference will be held at the Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, 1700 N. E. 7th Street, Oklahoma City. 

Dr. John A. Reed, Jr., Senior Pastor at Fairview, is Host Pastor for the Conference and National Convention Vice President, Western Region, overseeing the states in Region 1.  Dr. Jerry Young of Jackson, Mississippi, is President of the National Baptist Convention, parent body of the SSPB.   

The theme for the Conferences is, “Equipping Today’s Church to Serve.”  The SSPB Regional Conference highlights include an overview of the Christian Leadership Programs, and the Sunday School Publishing Board’s Sunday School and Vacation Bible School curricula.

The Regional Conferences are uniquely designed for pastors, church ministry leaders, congress presidents/deans, moderators, state directors, and Christian educators who desire training in Christian education and Christian ministry leadership.  Seminars and courses are offered to meet the contemporary needs and challenges of the Christian Church.

The Session will begin at 8:00 a.m. on May 1 with breakfast and registration, followed by the Opening Plenary at 9:00 a.m.  Classes and Seminars will begin at 9:30 a.m.  A community worship service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday night in Fairview’s Main Sanctuary and will include music, greetings from National, state and district officers, and the Conference Dean.  The sermon will be by Dr. Derrick L. Jackson, Executive Director of the SSPB, Nashville, TN, and Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Gallatin, TN.  Monday night’s worship service is open to the public and does not require registration.

Registration is open and can be completed online through the SSPB’s website, www.sspbnbc.com.  Deadline for online registration is April 14, after which time registration fees will increase.  Classes that will be offered during this Conference includes courses for Certificate of Progress Program (COPP), Dean Certification and Re-Certification, and Teacher Certification, including the Pastor’s Alternative for Teacher Certification (PATC).  A full list of courses offered and course descriptions can be viewed by downloading the Conference brochure at www.sspbnbc.com.
