National Baptist Convention Officer Preacher for Fairview’s Friends Day

By M. Patterson |  May 15, 2015

Fairview Baptist Church, located at 1700 N. E. 7th Street in Oklahoma City, extends an invitation to its friends throughout the Oklahoma City community to worship with them on May 24 as they observe their 18th Annual Friends Day.  The day’s agenda is Sunday School Study Groups at 8:30 a.m. and Morning Worship at 10:00 a.m.  The theme for the occasion is “Reaching Our Friends for Christ,” Mark 5:19.

Friends Day at Fairview, which is evangelistic in nature, is a time set aside for the congregation to celebrate friendships.  In preparation for the celebration, the entire membership, led by Evangelism Minister Cleo McGlory, work in a united effort to invite neighbors and friends, especially those that are unsaved and unchurched, to share in worship on that day.  “Friend’s Day gives every member an opportunity to play a major role in the evangelistic outreach of our church,” stated Senior Pastor J. A. Reed, Jr.  “We want to pack the house on that day,” he continued, speaking of the near 1,500 seating capacity sanctuary

This year’s 10:00 a.m. Morning Worship preacher will be Rev. Dr. Donaldson Jones, Pastor of Mount New Home Missionary Baptist Church, Leighton, Alabama, and Special Assistant to the President of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., Dr. Jerry Young of Jackson, Mississippi.

Dr. Jones is a native of Athens, Alabama.  His religious training and bestowed achievements include a B. A. Degree from American Baptist College, Nashville, Tennessee, where he majored in Theology, study towards a Master of Divinity Degree at Southeastern Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, North Carolina, a Doctor of Divinity Degree from The Tennessee School of Religion in Memphis, and the Doctor of Human Letters from United Theological Seminary and Bible College in Monroe, Louisiana.
He is an active, involved churchman, a caring pastor and conscientious patriot.  He served as pastor to several congregations prior to his call to Mt. New Home in May of 2010.  In addition to his pastoral work, he travels throughout the country, preaching and speaking in various churches, conventions and academic venues.  His preaching style is said to show intellectuality, profundity, intuitiveness and perception, oratorical cadence, and melodious rhythm.

Rev. Dr. Jones has held several positions within the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., foremost being appointed as Special Assistant to former Convention President Dr. Julius R. Scruggs in November 2009 and being reappointed to the position by current President Dr. Jerry Young.  This appointment affords him the opportunity to work with Rev. Dr. Reed, who is Vice President for the Western Region of the 7.5 million-member Convention and a part of the President’s Executive Committee.

The Fairview Family welcomes all to come and share in this special day and experience the joy of Christ.  For additional information, call the church at 405-232-1621 or visit the church website at www.fairviewokc.com.  Those in need of transportation should call 405-471-9494.
