Young Elected Next President of the NBC, USA, Inc.; Reed Affirmed as One of the Vice Presidents

Dr. Jerry Young Elected as Next President of NBC USA, Inc.

September 5, 2014 -- On Thursday, September 4, 2014, the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., under the leadership of Dr. Julius R. Scruggs, elected Dr. Jerry Young as its next President. Dr. Young is the current Vice President-At-Large and Pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. The voting results were (by percentage of total votes):

• Young – 49%
•  Kimber – 22%
•  Jones – 14%
•  Holmes – 11%
•  Vaughn – 4%

Dr. Young addressed the Convention body on Friday morning, September 5, 2014 during the morning session. During his brief address, he thanked many persons including his predecessors, Dr. William J. Shaw and Dr. Julius Scruggs (both of whom he served as a high ranking member of their individual cabinets). He also recognized his family, his church and those persons that worked with his campaign.

Dr. Young then spoke to his immediate plans for transitioning to his new responsibilities as President. He stated that he immediately formed a “skeleton crew” that will aid him in accessing the needs and persons necessary to make up his cabinet/team. Those persons are:

• Dr. Calvin McKinney – will remain as General Secretary for the Convention
• Dr. Clarence Moore – will remain as a Vice President
• Dr. John Reed – will remain as a Vice President
• Dr. Claybon Lea – will remain as a Vice President
• Dr. Fred Campbell – will be the new Chairman of the Board of Directors

These persons were affirmed by the Convention body.
