Men's Ministry

Ministry Purpose:  To provide service to God and man by practicing good stewardship of time, talents, and material possessions.

The Men’s Ministry exists to provide service to God and His appointed Shepherd of the Fairview Baptist Church.  The service is provided through stewardship in the form of material possessions, time, and talent.

Where there is a need and an opportunity, the Ministry reaches outside of the Fairview Family to assist in good works as God commands.  The Ministry fervently supports God’s Great Commission which is to “Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”  Matthew 28:19-20.

As the Men’s Ministry, our ministry is helping men reinforce their commitment to Christ, church and family; motivating men to practice their ministry at home, at work, in the community; encouraging men to take a leadership role in their church; encouraging men to claim their roles in local, regional and national missions; helping men to be more aware of their God-given talents and gifts; and helping men become more aware of the meaning and purpose of their church membership.

We recognize that boys are the men of the future and so seek to include and encourage them as well.  As Christians, our relationship with Christ as Lord and Savior is of paramount importance both for ourselves and as something we desire to share with our friends and neighbors.  Good leaders and mature Christians don't just happen; they develop with years of experience, years that are missed if the man is not participating. Young men need the guidance of older, more experienced men.  That guidance is often gotten through the witness of the actions and choices of others.  Older men need guidance at times and to be a guide at others, to serve by using and sharing out of their growing experience and maturity.  If you have time or gifts to share with boys, young men or older men, the Men’s Ministry desires to have you.

All men need times and places where they can discuss issues that cannot be comfortably or well discussed in mixed groups. All men have times when they need the advice, guidance or companionship of other men to deal with their situations and circumstances. All men need opportunities to serve and practice their faith and ministry in order to grow further.  At Fairview, you have the opportunity to reach out and serve. Serving in this way develops broader perspectives of Christian ministry and witness.
  1. The Annual Church Dinner / Clarence Wilder Fish Fry - the men of Fairview have sponsored this event for nearly 60 years.  It was traditionally held the fourth Tuesday of February.  The Church Dinner, formerly referred to as the Brotherhood Dinner, was combined with the men's Clarence Wilder Fish Fry and is held in the month of October.  The men continue to purchase, prepare and serve the meal, which now includes fried fish and trimmings.
  2. The Men’s Ministry is an active part of Fairview’s Fishes and Loaves Food Pantry Ministry.  They are responsible for delivery and setup.
  3.  Information on past and future events of interest to the men of the church is included as a regular feature of The Fairviewan, Fairview’s newletter.
  4.  The men of Fairview participate in all laymen events associated with the East Zion District, Oklahoma Baptist State Convention, and National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc.

There are many other opportunities for men to position themselves at Fairview.  The men are an integral part of the Sunday School Ministry, Trustee Ministry, Deacon Ministry, Singing Churchmen (male chorus) or other choirs in the Music and Fines Arts Ministry, to name a few.  If you have been seeking to fulfill you purpose in life, try the Men’s Ministry.  The Ministry meets the second Wednesday night of the month at 6:00 p.m.
