Communications Conference Scheduled

The community is invited to take part in a Communications Conference that will be held at Fairview Baptist Church on Friday and Saturday, March 11 and 12.  The Conference is sponsored by the church’s Communications and Public Relations Ministry.  The theme is “Illuminating the Community through Effective Communication,” Matthew 5:14-16.

 The two-day format is designed to provide participants with resources and practical techniques and tools to initiate systems and optimize existing processes to positively present and represent Christ and to promote their church and church ministries. 
Scheduled sessions include:  “Utilizing Social Networking to Promote Your Church Ministry: Avoiding Pitfalls;” “How to Use Video to Promote Your Church: Did They Get the Message?;” “How to Write and Produce a Radio Spot;” “Photography I & II-Getting the Best Results;” “Evaluating Your Publicity Scorecard: Using Economical Promotion Tactics to Get Valuable Returns;” “Effective Communication Through Print: Getting It Published;” “Websites and Web Pages, Live-Stream and On-Demand Video: Assessing Need/Affordable Options;” “Flyers and Posters: Read it or Trash It.” 

 Friday night’s agenda focus is “Promoting Church Ministries to Promote the Church’s Ministry.”   The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. with Registration and the Conference will officially open at 6:30 p.m.  The Opening Speaker will be Rev. Dr. J. A. Reed, Jr.  His presentation will center on “The Church Ministries’ Role in Promoting the Church’s Ministry.”  

During the course of his 48-year tenure as Pastor of Fairview, the membership has grown to over 2000 members and he serve as chief administrator over 48 ministries at the church.  Dr. Reed serves as one of the Vice Presidents of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., overseeing the Convention’s Western Region.  He is President of the Baptist Ministers Association of Oklahoma City and the Concerned Clergy for Spiritual Renewal.  He has traveled extensively and is known across the nation as a profound preacher, lecturer and teacher who speaks boldly on truths established through basic Biblical principles.   

Saturday’s focus will be on “Developing and Enhancing Tools to Market the Church Ministry-Using Technology to Promote the Gospel.”   A continental breakfast will be served from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m.  The General Session begins at 8:30 a.m. with breakout sessions from 9:00 – 12:15 p.m.  The Conference will end with a luncheon with Rev. Michael McDaniel, Pastor of the Northeast Baptist Church, Forest Park, as Luncheon Speaker.

Rev. McDaniel is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and he received a Master's Degree in Public School Administration from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.  He has diverse teaching and preaching experience which includes:  Oklahoma Baptist State Convention, East Zion Consolidated District, Baptist Ministers Association, Midwest City MLK Celebration Service, the National Association for Athletic & Academics and other churches as well as small group organizations.  His service at Northeast Baptist has resulted in a marked increase in membership and the development of new ministries, plus a leadership institute.  

            Registration cost for the Conference is $15 per individual or churches can elect to take advantage of the church registration rate of $75, which affords the opportunity to send as many as eight (8) persons.  Pre-registration is recommended as class sizes are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

            Fairview is located at 1700 Northeast 7th Street in Oklahoma City.  Dr. J. A. Reed, Jr., serves as Senior Pastor.  Maeleatha Patterson is the Director of the Communication and Public Relations Ministry and Jamar Patterson is Conference Chairperson.
