Deliver Us From Evil Prayer Vigil

By R. Faulkner, Leader of Pastors' Team, OKC Billy Graham Festival |  June 20, 2015

The group of faithful worshipers who gathered at Emmanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, S.C., last Wednesday evening looked into the face of evil. Nine of them were murdered by a man who sat with them throughout their prayer time. This is the demonic nature of racial hatred.

There will be many responses to this tragedy. I wish to add to them a call to prayer. We who serve in church leadership in Oklahoma City have a responsibility to humble ourselves before one another and before the Lord. We are called to do what the prophet Samuel was called to do. He said, "As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you" (1 Samuel 12:23).

United prayer is one way we can take a stand against societal evil. The tragedy in South Carolina is a stark reminder of the great need for us to pray for a spiritual awakening in our own city. It is a way for us to come together for positive action against evil and for the gospel of Christ.

You are invited to come to pray with church leaders from all around our city,
  • Friday, June 26
  • 9:00 am
  • City Presbyterian Church, 829 NW 13th Street, OKC, 73106
  • City Pres Pastor Doug Serven will lead us.
We will ask for God's help as we work together in support of the Good News Festival with Franklin Graham. May the Lord "deliver us from evil," and help us to "overcome evil with good."

For the gospel,
Randy Faulkner
