Rev. Dr. J. A. Reed, Jr. and Rev. Kelly Booker will be the featured speakers for the 6th Annual Communications Conference that will be held at Fairview Baptist Church in Oklahoma City on February 28 and March 1.  The event is sponsored by the church’s Communications and Public Relations Ministry.  The theme is “Rebranding the Church for the 21st Century: Communicating by the Power of the Holy Spirit.”

This year’s Conference has been expanded to include a full day on Friday.  The informal, come-and-go schedule will be from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with an on-your-own, brown-bag, lunch period.  The session, “What’s That in Your Hand? - Confronting the Fear of Technology,” will be an open-ended format, designed to provide hands-on support in the use of I-Pads, notebooks and tablets, cell phones/smartphones, laptops, basic tips on navigating the computer, digital cameras, etc.  Mentors will be available to assist conference attendees in the use of electronic devices in ministry as well as in their personal lives.  Information will also be available to introduce participants to varied types of social media.  Those with minimal skills or limited knowledge in these areas are encouraged to attend the day session.

Friday night’s agenda will focus on “Effective Leadership in the 21st Century:  Leading a Tech-Savvy Generation.”  The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. with registration and the Conference will officially open at 6:30 p.m. The Opening Speaker is Rev. Dr. J. A. Reed, Jr., 51-year veteran Pastor at Fairview, OKC Baptist Ministers Association President, and Vice President of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., Western Region.  Dr. Reed is known across the nation as a profound preacher and teacher who speaks boldly on truths established through basic Biblical principles.  He has extensive experience in presenting seminars and lectures on Christian Leadership.

On Saturday, beginning at 9:00 a.m., breakout periods will incorporate disciplines presented on Friday in practical application.  The focus, “Successful Communication in Ministry:  Connecting Generations,” is designed to provide participants with resources and practical techniques and tools to initiate systems and optimize existing processes to promote their church and church ministries.  Scheduled topics include:  “Social Media in Ministry,” “Developing and Managing a Church Communications Ministry,” “Producing Quality Photographs that Enhance Ministry,” “Practical Teaching Tools and Techniques:  Integrating Technology,” “Basic Design of PowerPoint Presentations,” “Posters That Present your Message,” “CPR to the Rescue: Fairview’s Communication Ministry.”   Some topics are subject to change, based on demand.

The Conference will close with a luncheon with Rev. Kelly Booker, Senior Pastor at New Union Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, as Luncheon Speaker.  Rev. Booker is a forthright preacher of the Gospel as well as an experienced lecturer.   Although he pastors a multi-generational congregation, he has a considerable following of youth and young adults.  He operates by the motto:  “Moved by vision, committed by faith.”

The Conference is open to the public.  Registration is:  Individual, $20; seniors, 65 years of age and older, $15; church group registration rate for up to five (5) persons, $75.  Registration entitles the participant to attend all sessions and includes breaks, continental breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Conference materials.  Pre-registration is recommended as class sizes are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
