Fairview to Celebrate Scholarship Sunday/Langston University Day

Fairview Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its annual Scholarship Sunday/Langston University Day on February 9, 2014 at 10:00am. The speaker for the occasion is local community leader Erick W. Harris.  Each year, Fairview uses this special occasion to raise funds for its scholarship program to support local college students. Langston’s President, Dr. Kent J. Smith, Jr., the university choir, and the entire Langston community will join Fairview on this day.  Dr. Smith will deliver greetings and the choir will deliver several selections.  Local Greek fraternities and sororities have also been invited to participate in the service.

A native Oklahoman, Erick Harris is a third-year law student at the University of Oklahoma College of Law where he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Oklahoma Journal of Law and Technology. Throughout his legal studies, Erick has served as a legal intern for the U.S. Coast Guard Judge Advocate General, Chief Justice Tom Colbert of the Oklahoma Supreme Court, Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company, and is currently an intern for Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt.  In addition to his legal studies, Erick currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at the University of Central Oklahoma where he teaches an undergraduate American Government class. He was also elected by the Oklahoma Democratic Party as a delegate to the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Erick graduated from Tuskegee University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and served as Student Body President. He later received a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Oklahoma. A very community-oriented individual, Erick is a volunteer for several organizations and is a member of the Stephenson Cancer Board of Advocates, OKC American Lung Association Leadership Council, and the Equal Justice Works National Advisory Committee.  He is also a member of the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and a member of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church where he serves as a Deacon and Trustee.
