A Leap of Faith

Fairview Sponsors Monthly Community Worship Opportunity

December 21, 2009

ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 6, 2010, nearly 75 people gathered for the commencement of what Fairview Pastor J. A. Reed, Jr. termed “stepping out on faith.”

At the end of 2009, Pastor Reed announced the beginning of a Community Noonday Worship service to be held on the first Wednesday of each month.  We would reach out to the working community and encourage them to take their lunch breaks and come and share for an hour in worship.  “I don’t know where the Lord is leading with this or where it will go,” Pastor would say.  “I’m just stepping out on faith.”

The first service was a testament to God’s handiwork in faith ventures.  The community responded.  Churches spotted in the audience were  Faith, Hope and Love Baptist Church, Tabitha Baptist, Mt. Rose Baptist, St. James Baptist, New Life Baptist, Greater New Zion Baptist, Prospect Baptist, Central Baptist, Chandler, and Fairview Baptist.  Organizations readily identified included OK Department of Human Services, OK Department of Corrections and One Church-One Child.

The worship began at 12noon with Praise and Worship.  Pastor greeted the worshippers and moved on in to the service.

Sister Velina Davenport of Tabitha Baptist Church, sang, followed by the Pastor’s message from God, “Don’t Panic—God Has Everything Under Control,” Psalm 27:13-14.  The message relayed that panic has never solved any problems.  When Christians panic, God cannot use us for His glory.  He then gave comparisons of occupations and results of panic:  What if—the surgeon panic during surgery, the policeman panic during an accident, the lifeguard panic when someone is drowning, the pilot panic during a storm, mother panic when her child is sick.  Christians shouldn’t panic because of our belief and God’s promises.  We’re standing on God’s promises.

As he brought the message to a close, there was no doubt that this service was truly ordained by God.  The crowning moment was that a soul was led to Christ.

At the end of the worship period, Fairview’s Culinary Ministry served lunch, which was available as carryout or as a sit-and-fellowship order.  Some of the comments that were overheard was “I needed that message.  Just this week I felt that I might not make it.”  “Sometimes I feel that God has forgotten about me.  I know He hasn’t but it helps to be reminded.”  “Thanks for inviting me.  I’d like to come again.”
