Fairview Usher/Nurse-Healthcare Workshop

The Usher Ministry and Nurse/Healthcare Ministry of Fairview will hold a Workshop on Friday evening, September 2, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., at the church.  The theme is “Ushers and Nurses Serving to Illuminate the Community,” Matthew 28:19-20. 
 
Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. and the workshop will officially open at 7:00 p.m. with the Praise and Worship Period and opening remarks.  The audience will then disperse to the respective Ministry sessions. 
 
The Usher Ministry’s session is designed to enhance existing skills of ministry members as well as present challenges that will encourage attendees to endeavor to embrace their position with a spiritual passion.

The speaker for the Ushers is Sister Sandra Finney.  Sister Finney serves as President of the Usher Ministry of the Oklahoma Baptist State Convention (OBSC), a position she has held since 2005 and is a member of Followers of Christ Baptist Church.  She has been affiliated with the Usher/Nurse Ministries from the local to national level for a number of years.  In addition to State Usher President, her experience includes: Participation at the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.; Workshop Chair for the Southwest Region Usher/Nurses Conference and the Western Region Usher/Nurses Conference; Dimple Davis Workshop Chair with the OBSC; Coordinator of Ushers for the Women’s Department of the East Zion District Association; Annual Workshop Co-Chair and Treasurer for the Oklahoma City City-Wide Usher Ministry; and First Vice President and President of the Usher Ministry at Followers of Christ Baptist Church.

Ms. Finney is a Senior Administrative Assistant for The University of Oklahoma Health Science Center’s (OUSHC) Section of General Internal Medicine and has over 45 years’ experience in office administration. 

The Nurse/Healthcare Ministry session will focus on “addictions.”  The speakers will discuss traps of substance abuse and other addictions and resources available to help in getting out of these traps and staying out.  They will present principles from the 12 Step Recovery Program. The Ministry is urging lay persons of all ages, as well as healthcare professionals, to attend their session.  Information will be disseminated that will be of benefit to adults as well as youth. 

Speakers for the Nurse/Healthcare Ministry are Sister Felicia Nero of Fairview Baptist Church and Sister Chanda Robinson of Serenity Outreach Ministry.  Sister Nero serves as Ministry Leader for Fairview’s 12 Step Program and is presently attending Oklahoma State University – OKC, majoring in Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counseling.   She recently received a certificate of completion for the "Thinking for a Change" class, which enables her to teach offenders on how to change their negative thoughts into positive thoughts along with their actions.  Sister Robinson serves as Project Manager for Mentor Hope, a company that provides a book and workbook combination that can inspire a person to mentor as well as be mentored.  The company helps set up mentoring programs in schools, rehabs, and many other kinds of organizations.    

Ushers and Nurse/Healthcare staff from throughout the area, as well as any other interested persons in the community, are encouraged to attend.   Registration is $10 and can be completed onsite.
