Dr. John A. Reed, Jr., Senior Pastor of Fairview Baptist Church, has designated the month of January as Prayer Focus month for his congregation.  The chosen theme is “It Happens After Prayer.”  All preaching and teaching will be centered on prayer.  Group study for Wednesday night Bible Study and Sunday morning discussion groups will utilize the book “It Happens After Prayer” by Rev. Dr. H. B. Charles, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida.

Two special events are scheduled:  The Annual Super Prayer Meeting and the Annual Prayer Seminar, under the direction of Prayer Coordinator Dr. Patricia F. Reed.

The Super Prayer Meeting will be held on Wednesday night, January 8, beginning at 7:00 p.m.  The service will include emphasis on prayer, a special prayer period and worship celebration.

The preacher for the evening will be Rev. Semaj Y. Vanzant, Sr., Pastor/Teacher of Christ United Methodist Church of Northeast Oklahoma City.  Christ United’s Music Ministry will sing for the service.  Pastor Vanzant, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, is a trained theologian who exhibits demonstrated and forward-thinking leadership, organizational and motivational skills.    He is author of a 10-class curriculum for new members, entitled “Life application,” and co-author of a ministry’s “Personal Commitment Guide,” revamp of “L.I.F.E.” New Members curriculum.  Rev. Vanzant has served at CUMC since December 2011.  Click here for additional information on Pastor Vanzant.

On Saturday, January 11, the church will be engaged in a Prayer Seminar from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon.  The agenda will include prayer emphases, a question and answer period, prayer requests and a prayer commitment period.  The church leadership, along with Prayer Team Leaders, will serve as facilitators and presenters for the seminar.  The seminar is open to the public and there is no cost for participation.

The community is invited to be a part of the Super Prayer Meeting, the Prayer Seminar and other worship and study periods during the month.
